I took this photo recently at the St. Louis Zoo. I did my best to photoshop the fence out of the shot -- not 100% successful but you do get a better look at this cat's beautiful face.

Hello all, I wanted to post and say that yesterday I received a response from Ace Bourke (one of Christian the Lion's former *owners*), he was kind enough to autograph a photo and even wrote me a page and half long letter about Christian and about how vital things like the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Tust are. He also mentioned the upcoming movie about Christian's life...he wrote..."It seems there will in time be a film so look out for that."
I also wanted to share this link with everyone, it's a video of John Rendall and Ace Bourke from last year talking about Christian and animal conservation and in this video they directly address how they now feel about private ownership of big cats...here's a spoiler...they're against it.

Hi all, as some of you may know I adore the story of Christian the Lion. I do believe it to be one of, if not the, most beautiful animal stories I have ever heard. Recently, I wrote to both John Rendall and Anthony Bourke, Christian's "owners"...the gentlemen that purchased Christian from Harrods in London in 1969. A few weeks ago I received an autographed photo from John Rendall...it really made my day. Both of these men are so incredibly kind for what they did for Christian...instead of selfishly thinking of themselves, they did what was best for Christian...instead of choosing a life of confinement and cages for Christian, they gave him a life worthy of a King.
I just wanted to share that with everyone.
I also recently read that Hollywood is making a movie about Christian's story. I'm not too incredibly thrilled about that, since, in my most humble opinion, Hollywood has a way of either overplaying or underplaying a story based upon fact.
Now, that we have the new "Sets" feature, getting plenty of appropriate keywords entered as tags on as many current and past photos, videos and blogs is very important.
As members start building "Sets" to group like items together they will be doing searches for photos, videos and blogs on the same subject as the items they are grouping together in their "Sets'. Tags on current items and past items will help them find things.
The easier items can be found the more they will be viewed, the more they will be starred and the more they will be commented on.
So, whenever you are surfing the site looking at things, make it a habit to check the tags for the items you are looking at. If they aren't tegged enough, tag them, if you have time.
As you post new items, be sure to add all the appropriate tags you can think of for your posts.
You will also notice as you upload new items you can choose a set right there on the upload to add the items to.
NOTE: PLEASE use proper tagging. Example don't use dog as a tag on a cat photo unless the photo somehow relates to a dog. Don't use leopard as a keyword on tiger photos unless the photo somehow relates to leopards. You get the idea.
Happy Tagging To All
UPDATE Added August 1, 2010:
Regarding adding items to sets (photos, blogs, videos etc). As you surf the sight or look through you own stuff you will see right under the photo, video or blog post by where you use the star rating thing, there is a link that says, "Add To Set", click that and choose a set to add things to.
You can create new sets for whatever subjects you want to.
So, again as you surf if you have the extra time to do so added appropriate tags to items you like and then add them into sets.
ORIGINAL POST BELOW
To explain 'sets':
In the menu above where you can click to see blogs, videos, members, photos etc there is now a link there that says sets. When you click on it you can then look to the left and click on Create a Set. You can then type in a keyword and choose to search all media on the site or just your media etc. That will bring up everything using that keyword. You can choose to add items to a set.
This will be useful for example:
If you wanted to make a set called Snow leopards. You could add all media about snow leopards. Then when someone wanted to view snow leopard stuff they could go to the snow leopard set to see a lot of snow leopard posts instead of searching for snow leopard items one by one.
Now when you post a new item you can choose to create a new set or to add the item to an existing set. It is simply a tool for helping group like items together.
A set can be any subject you choose and you can add any media you want to a set.
Hope everyone enjoys this new feature.

GROSSE TETE — A Florida animal welfare advocate fired off a scathing e-mail Monday night complaining to Iberville Parish authorities about what she called inhumane conditions a tiger is forced to endure while on public display at an Interstate 10 truck stop.
Her criticism brought a volley of denials Tuesday from the parish president, parish chief administrative officer, state large-carnivore manager as well as the tiger’s owner.
In expressing her displeasure to Parish President Mitch Ourso and the parish’s animal control shelter, Sky Williamson threatened to organize a parishwide boycott until the tiger is removed and placed in an
animal sanctuary.
For years, Williamson, of Melbourne, Fla., has waged an aggressive campaign to get the tiger removed and placed in an environment more in line with a tiger’s natural habitat.
She has been working as a cable company contractor in Louisiana since Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005.
Williamson has said her e-mail and phone campaign to have the tiger removed from the truck stop started in January 2008 after she first saw the tiger.
In the latest complaint which she made public, Williamson said she stopped by Tiger Truck Stop on Monday afternoon to check on Tony, the 550-pound Siberian-Bengal tiger who has been caged for years at the truck stop.
Williamson suggested the big cat has been losing weight due to its environment.
Williamson admitted to being “disgusted” and “nauseated” to find Tony’s sleeping area littered with his own feces and urine.
Cats do not defecate where they sleep, Williamson told officials in her e-mail, also asserting she has photo evidence showing Tony locked in his den without access to drinking water.
“This is not acceptable,” Williamson wrote. “How long are you going to allow society to see animal cruelty on display … this is an embarrassment to not only Iberville Parish but to the state of Louisiana.”
In response, Ourso said Williamson was out of line in threatening a boycott.
“I don’t appreciate her making threats to my office or the people of this parish,” Ourso said. “She’s not a resident here. I think she’s gone too far.”
Ourso, saying he has continually fought for the well-being of the tiger, reminded the public of his February 2009 veto of a parish ordinance the Parish Council approved to allow the truck stop’s owner to keep the tiger at the business.
In his veto message at that time, Ourso wrote the ordinance the council approved 11-1 was deficient because it failed to provide conditions to ensure the safety of the public and the health and welfare of the tiger.
The parish has put in place safeguards for the tiger’s welfare, said Edward “Lucky” Songy, the parish’s chief administrative officer, such as weekly, random and unannounced visits by animal-control workers to check on the tiger’s health and inspect the cat’s living conditions.
Calling Williamson’s new claims unfounded, Songy said those inspections haven’t uncovered any inhumane treatment of the animal.
The large-carnivore program manager for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Maria Davidson, said Tuesday she also has randomly checked on the tiger since Dec. 14, when her agency granted the Grosse Tete truck stop’s owner a permit to keep the tiger on public display.
“I have never seen anything to substantiate anything in (Williamson’s) letter,” Davidson said.
Also Tuesday, Tiger Truck Stop owner Michael Sandlin, who said he has owned 13 big cats during a 22-year period, dismissed Williamson’s complaint as a continuation of that activist’s mission to take the 10-year-old tiger away from him.
“This is nothing but harassment,” Sandlin said.

I drew this at the NC Zoo in Asheburo. Was originally going to draw as-is, but he moved. ^^' But I got the photo, though. http://bigcat.bigcatchat.com/_Zoo-005jpg/photo/8456041/23189.html
"You take your comfort where you can get it, although the cat on the bottom doesn`t look too impressed with things! This Eurasian lynx lump photo was taken at Binder Park Zoo in Michigan, USA."

Hi Every One
Can someone please tell me how the voting is being done for the 2009 photo contest, or where can I find out the results? How will the winners be notified?
Thanks.
