If he wins he would get $10,000 for his favorite charity, Big Cat Rescue of course. - Jamie Veronica

Sometimes it seems like our trouble-making pets will eat anything. Their hoovering ability comes in handy when you spill chicken soup on the floor (tongues being just as good as mops). But unfortunately, it's all too easy for our pets to get into substances that can harm them.
The ASPCA Poison Control Center recently released a list of the top 10 poisons that affected cats and dogs in 2009. So take note, and be sure keep these toxic substances far away from your pets in 2010!
Human Medicines
Human drugs were the top cause of pet poisoning in 2009, the ASPCA reported. Last year, the Poison Control Center managed more than 45,000 calls from people whose pets had swallowed pills such as pain relievers, cold meds and antidepressants.
Insecticides
One of the most common insecticide problems was misuse of flea and tick products. Make sure to talk to your vet about how to properly use these products.
Human Food
Most people know chocolate is dangerous to dogs. But did you know that grapes, raisins, avocados and products containing xylitol (like sugar-free gum and candy) can also be harmful to your pets?
Plants
Dozens of common houseplants, including azaleas, rhododendrons, sago palm and kalanchoe are dangerous for pets. Lilies are particularly toxic for cats, and can cause deadly kidney failure.
Vet Medicines
Almost 8,000 cases of pet poisonings in 2009 involved pets that were given medicines incorrectly. Make sure you follow instructions and talk to your vet about how to safely apply over-the-counter and prescription medicines for your cat or dog.
Rodent Killer
Poisons that are attractive to mice and rats can also smell tempting to dogs and cats. Be sure to keep your pets away from potentially deadly rodent poisons.
Household Cleaners
Bleaches, detergents and disinfectants can cause serious gastrointestinal and respiratory problems. Keep cabinets locked to prevent your pets from swallowing or sniffing the harmful substances.
Heavy Metals
You know lead poisoning is bad for babies, but it's just as dangerous for your furry friends. Keep your pets away from paint chips, linoleum, and the dust produced when you sand the walls in older homes.
Garden Products
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals can cause severe stomach upset in dogs and cats. So let your dog stop to sniff the roses, but not the fertilizer, please.
Household Chemicals
Our homes often contain a lot of chemical substances, from antifreeze to paint thinner to drain cleaner. Such substances can cause stomach upset, respiratory problems and chemical burns in dogs and cats.
i CBC Members,
I have been asked several times about creating something members could spend their CBC points on. So I have a couple ideas rolling around and wanted your input.
IDEA # ONE: Buying 6"x4" photo prints
Not sure if everyone knows it or not but you can mail a 6"x4" photograph through the US Postal Service (US Post Office) as if it is a postcard and attaching a post card postage stamp to it. It works, I do it all the time.
If you order multiple prints they can be sent to you in an envelope so you can then mail them out to your friends. However, ordering just one, it would be sent to you as 'postcard'.
SOOO, if everyone likes this idea, we have some 6"x4" photo prints that have been decorated for the upcoming Valentine holiday that you can spend your points on. (I am not forgetting our members who do not celebrate certain holidays and will include some non-decorated photos as well).
There will be a total of 250 photos and they will go on a first come first serve basis.
Here is the question for your input: Would you rather use your points to purchase your 6x4 photo prints outright, keep in mind there are only 250 total prints, which means members with many points could snap them all up before anyone else got a chance. OR, would you rather I post the photos and then in the comments area members could 'bid' on the photo prints by posting in the comments how many points they'd offer/spend on that photo?
Let me know your choice ASAP as I would like to start this February 1, 2010 and finish by February 5, 2010 so hopefully members can receive them before Valentine's Day.
NOTE: Point earning levels have been recently reset back to their defaults, as some of the items were still left at the previous higher contest earning levels. We will be increasing points for logging in, giving & receiving star ratings etc between January 28, 2010 and February 2, 2010.
IDEA # TWO: Buying Special Screensavers & Desktop Wallpapers
I have been working on a couple new series of screensavers featuring the cats of BCR. Some of those will be offered as freebies to all web site visitors on BCF and others will be held back and offered only for members to purchase themw ith their CBC points. Would you be interested in this?

I recently came across this den cam, set up in Minnesota. It is the first live den cam for a wild bear, and Lily the Bear actually gave birth on camera! It is cool, you can actually hear the cub when it cries.

I am writing this blog for all the Tigers in the world but mostly
for the Bengal Tigers, as they are my true Love.
Hi they call me Tigersangel for a reason, I am their angel I am
always tring to do something to help keep them alive. My latest
is writing about them on my blog sites. I hope you will take the
time to read what I have to say about these Tigers!!
I have been supporting these Tigers most of my life now and I
hope that the more of you out their learn about these Beautiful
Tigers that you will want to help as well. They deserve to be free
and to raise their babies just as we are/do. They are not ment to
be a Trophy Kill!! They wear that Fur for a reson, They are the
rightful owner of it Not Us!! I do not own anything that comes
from any animal and neither should you. It is just plain
WRONG!!!!! When I see these tigers they make me happy inside
and out, and they have the right to stay alive as much as we do.
The way I see it is they were here first and we invaded them,
NOT KOOL!! I would like for my grandchildren to grow up and
see these Beautiful Tigers and to also learn more about them as
well. We only have about 4,000 Bengals left and when you
really stop and think about it thats not alot compared to what we
use to have. Since the 20th century, Three of the Eight
Subspecies have dissappeared from hunting and habitat
elimination. I have posted 2 very good sites in this blog where
you can go to help out the Tigers and to learn more about them.
They need to be Free, Free, Free and I will not stop until they
are Free for Life. I have a very very strong love for these Great
Cat's. Please we must stop killing them!!! They keep holding on
for our help so please let's all stand togeather and help these
Beautiful Cat's. Their Fur is not ment for us to wear it, Their
Fur is for them to wear!!! They have the right to live just as we
do!!!
